Admin Access & Installing Software on Your CRL Computer
On CRL computers, your everyday account runs as a standard user — it doesn’t carry full-time (“standing”) local administrator rights. When you need to do something that requires admin, such as installing approved software, you request a quick, one-time elevation. This article explains how that works.
How to install software or run something that needs admin
- Find the installer or app you need to run.
- Right-click it and choose “Run with elevated access.”
- Enter a short business justification (for example, “Installing X to do Y”).
- Complete the quick verification prompt.
That sends a request to IT. It won’t run right away — once we approve it, you’ll get a notification on your device and can go ahead.
What to expect
- Everyday work: no admin needed — you work normally.
- Installs and admin tasks: a quick approval step instead of instant admin — usually fast during business hours.
- Every elevation is logged. That’s normal and expected — it’s part of keeping our systems and data secure.
Sync your PC, then try again:
- Open the Company Portal app and choose Sync, or
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school > your CRL account > Info > Sync.
Give it a few minutes to finish, then right-click the file again. If it’s still not there after a little while, re-sync once more or contact the Helpdesk.
