Configuring the OneDrive Desktop App

This checklist configures the OneDrive desktop app on your CRL PC with the settings CRL recommends — so your files sync reliably and your Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders are backed up to the cloud.

Company-controlled setting: To protect company data, CRL IT automatically enforces OneDrive folder backup and syncing through device policy. This is a company-controlled setting and can’t be turned off or overridden. The steps below let you confirm your configuration — if anything doesn’t match, contact the CRL IT Team.

Step 1 — Open OneDrive

Open the OneDrive app using its cloud icon in the taskbar:

Step 2 — Open Settings

Confirm OneDrive is connected to the CRL Technologies Inc tenant, then click the Settings (gear) icon:

Step 3 — Sync & backup preferences

On the Sync and backup page, set the following:

• Start OneDrive when I sign in to Windows — ON
• Pause syncing when this device is in battery saver mode — OFF
• Pause syncing when this device is on a metered network — OFF

Step 4 — Advanced settings

Click Advanced settings, then set:

• File collaboration — ON
  • Open the drop-down and set “Ask before keeping both copies of a file that has a conflict” — ON
• Files On-Demand — OFF
• Limit download rate — OFF
• Limit upload rate — OFF

Why Files On-Demand is OFF: with it off, your synced files are kept fully downloaded on the PC, so they’re available even when you’re offline.

Step 5 — Manage backup

Click the Manage backup button at the top of the Sync and backup window:

Select these folders to back up:

• Desktop
• Documents
• Pictures

Then click Start backup:

The selected folders are now backing up to OneDrive. Let the CRL IT Team know if you encounter any issues.
